So I was debating about sharing my poetry on here. I've posted a poem before, but now that I am in a class where we basically write a poem every week and then read it out loud and critique each others work in front of the class... well, it is sort of intimidating. I see so much weakness in my work that I didn't notice or care about before. It is a great class, though. I was terrified the first time I had to read my poems in front of all these talented people, but everyone is so nice and gives great advice. I am learning a lot, and I get to write a lot, which I love.
Anyways, after debating I decided to share some of the things I write. Not everyone understands, or really cares much for poetry, but I think either way it can't hurt to share. So tonight I will share my first poem. It is in a form called "triplet" with only 3 lines and the rhyme scheme of aaa (meaning the end of each line rhymes the same). It was one of my hardest poems (it's hard for me to only have three lines to write about something dear to me). I wrote this poem in memory of a cherry tree on the farm where I grew up. Here it goes!
CHERRY TREE
I bid farewell to my dear cherry tree;
seeing what only a child can see,
as she wistfully waves adieu to me.
