January 2014

In the year of 2014 I am hoping to blog once a month to keep up on the events in our life. I see it as a way to share with our loved ones who don't get to see us often, and as a personal journal for my posterity!

Here is our January in review (don't forget to click "read more" at the bottom):

Organizing the Garage (Again)
The garage is our never-ending project. I was really pleased with our efforts this time around, even if it is not completed! We put up a spot for the girls to hang jackets/bags and crates underneath for their shoes and other items.
Peter pulled out his mad skills to hang this overhead storage. It was work, but worth it!
Peter was finally able to start on his tool organization! He is loving his new set up and how easily he can find his tools.

Chore Chart-Daily Jobs

After reading an inspiring post over at my friend's blog, I decided this household was overdue for a chore chart. When I was growing up my mom always had a job list (ALWAYS on saturdays) and while I'm sure we moaned and groaned, I love that my parents taught us to work. Here is what we have been doing:

This is all magnetic and on the side of the fridge. Sometimes I choose the jobs, sometimes I let the girls. When they are done they get to move their magnets over. I have 20 magnets with jobs on them (purchased from Etsy for $10)

The girls were excited to help at first. Some days now they complain, but we have been consistent and I am amazed at just how much they really do help!

SI GOT A JUMPEROO! YAY!

Simon loves to jump and watch mom work in the kitchen
This handsome little guy has been keeping his Mommy up a lot at night this month. We have tried some new things, and some nights are better than others. Some days I feel like I am barely functioning, but I'm hoping it is just a phase and Peter is extra helpful on my really tired days. Despite his not sleeping, he is giggling, rolling, jumping and stealing our hearts everyday.

Happy Birthday Chloe!

Our big girl is getting bigger every day and celebrated turning six years old this month. Her birthday fell on a Saturday so we partied all day. We had donuts for breakfast, took a friend swimming, had pizza and cake and ice cream and opened presents.

Chloe's big gift...A bike! The training wheels came off just a couple days later

Chloe is our social girl and I told her she could choose this year between a birthday party at the park where she could invite several friends or choose one friend for a special activity. It was a very hard choice for her, but she decided to invite her friend Lily to swim and they had a lot of fun!

Random Fun
Mae gets to spend extra time at home with Mom and Si when Chloe goes to school. Mae has a new favorite game she calls "school babies" These are Mae's babies. The game is generally a combination of pretend school with Mommy as the teacher and taking care of her babies. I love her sweet personality :)

And here is Roxy. She found Si's bumbo and she needs a haircut desperately but we still love her (especially Chloe) and are glad she is part of the fam :)

Until February!

LOVE the update!

Yay the kids are getting so big! And how are you old enough to have a 6 year old?! Simon looks like he's having a blast in his jumparoo. I made the girls a little something with the leftovers from Emmalynn's project and I think Mae will enjoy it the most. I will bring it in March.

The chore chart is awesome and I really like the idea because even if the kiddos don't do the best job, you are encouraging responsibility and that you trust them.

And lets just take a moment of silence for the garage organization!!! I am obsessed with organization and we are continually having to organize things, including the garage (why is that?). We have the same ceiling organization and I love that it gets all my decor off the ground and out of sight. If we owned our home we would do another one for camping stuff. What a smart idea for the girls things so it's all contained and how cute are you for doing their names!

Miss you guys!

Loved this whole post! And I soooooo feel you on the sleeping thing. It's nice to know that I'm not the only one who is sleep deprived. :)

I love seeing the kids grow and hearing about how you guys are doing! And I'm so happy you got the chore magnets! Our boys love moving their magnets from one side to the other, too.
